Not so long ago I was a mum seeking to make her return into the workplace.  For a few years I had worked hard raising my daughter and doing the mum things.  It was a great time, but I knew that I would eventually want to return to the workforce and start enjoying the best of both worlds: being a mum and enjoying a rewarding career. But the search for a job that would allow me to do this was just futile. 

Allow me to paint a picture that I am sure you can relate to if you’re seeking to do the same.  You know what sort of work you want to do, but you need part time hours or a work at home job.  After all, there’s dropping the kids off to school and childcare in the morning, then picking them up in the afternoon when school is out.  There’s nobody else you can rely upon to do this, because hubby works until after 5pm and you have no relatives you can get to help you out.  It’s up to you and only you.

But employers don’t seem to get that – They want you working for them from 9am until 5pm – if you’re lucky!  Part-time and work at home jobs just don’t seem to be easy to find these days, and it’s clear that employers want you there during standard business hours.

You understand what it’s like as I did too, but rather than get despondent and think, “It’s all too hard”, it’s time to look at options that allow you to return to the workforce on your own terms.

Enter the concept of the “lifestyle career” – More and more people today are opting out of the rat race and into careers that work around their lifestyle, as opposed to the other way around.  This concept was born out of professionals leaving the corporate world, in search for a more balanced existence that allowed them the all-important healthy work/life balance.

And this demand for lifestyle careers has also been echoed by those women seeking a return to work.  I decided to do something to help these people connect with employers who “get it” – employers who understand the importance of healthy work/life balance.  Employers who know that when you treat employees really well, you get outstanding results.
