<p>At the start of 2010 the new National Employment Standards come into being. The standards include:</p>
<p><em>maximum weekly hours of work<br />
parental leave and related entitlements<br />
annual leave<br />
personal- carers leave and compassionate leave<br />
community service leave<br />
long service leave<br />
public holidays<br />
notice of termination and redundancy pay</em></p>
<p>There is also a requirement to respond to requests from employees for flexible working arrangements. Juliet Bourke, a Partner at <a href="http://www.aequus.com.au/" target="_blank">Aequus Partners</a>, says many employers are not aware of their obligations.</p>
