Does this sound familiar: You can make $1050 a day with a proven system with guaranteed results by completing online surveys from the comfort of your home?
What a lot of crock! It amazes me that people think and truly believe that they can actually make money and earn a full time income from doing these online surveys working from home.
I am emailed and called on a daily basis through the Work At Home Mums website. Mums who are looking for a work at home job to earn some money to contribute to the household ask me about all the time about online surveys. Can you make money from them? Are they all scams? I try to answer every enquiry with a personal response. This week has been busy: I’ve had 10 emails and 3 phone calls about this subject … which has prompted me to write down my personal opinions and the truth behind completing online surveys,
One might think it’s a wonder anyone actually has a profession any more, or puts in a hard day’s work. Why should we, after all, when literally millions of dollars are at our fingertips – and all we need to do is fill out a survey or two? That’s right, people: just answer a few questions about various subjects, send off a quick email, and watch the cash roll in.
We’ve all seen the online ads for this “career”, right? It’s easy, can be fun in fact, and takes little time, no brainpower, and there is zero stress involved. And money beyond your wildest dreams is sure to follow. Tempting, no? I deal with the temptation often, and I know many others who do too – these little nuggets with their once-in-a-lifetime opportunities drop into my inbox frequently and sometimes, I just can’t resist clicking on them.
Just like those Nigerian royals in trouble who email me often, appearing as though they want to lavish money on me, begging for my trusted assistance in increasingly pressing, alarmingly dramatic circumstances. Ever since casually checking out one of the survey-for-cash sites during a particularly boring day at the office, I have been inundated with jawdropping offers about how to make money in just 10 minutes a day.
Imagine! I’ll never have to use my brain again. All that education and career-building wasted – all along, all I needed to do was click a few boxes, fill out a few forms and voila! Money problems, banished forever. Except – well, it’s not really like that at all, is it?
First you have to lay out your life story, including credit card details of course, wade through reams of small print (and let’s face it, who ever reads that stuff? There’s a reason it is in block text with sentences which seem to go on for longer than Angelina Jolie’s legs – they KNOW you won’t bother to read it) and then, finally, discover that IF you make a down payment, you MIGHT be able to make 4 cents per survey! It is at this point many of us click away from the page, defeated.
But it’s not long before the Survey Pushers are in touch again with another offer – this one, they promise, is too good to be true. “Are you a savvy businesswoman?” they ask us. Well, I like to think so. “Would you like a real career which allows you to spend time with your family?” Of course. “Have you got just an hour a day to spare? Then click here, we have just the thing.”
Seductive words, aren’t they? Especially when they are often IN CAPITALS, just to up the excitement factor a notch.
Sadly, the fact is – if it appears too good to be true, then it probably is. If we could make our fortune in an hour a day, then surely more people would be, wouldn’t they? In fact, it would possibly bring the whole world to a grinding halt: why would anyone go out and do their useful but difficult, worthy but time-consuming jobs if they could be living the life of luxury and working in only an hour a day?
So, as a guideline – if anything makes big promises, asks for credit card details prior to offering concrete information, APPEARS TO SHOUT AT YOU, or has you thinking “Surely not”, then back away from the computer and don’t go any further.
There are hundreds of ways to make money from home with the willingness to work hard, utilise talents – and we all have at least one talent – and be realistic about the amount of time needed to put in. And let’s face it, there is far more satisfaction to be had from a job well done than clicking a few boxes about your opinions on washing powder.
Still, I think my Nigerian friends do seem to be getting themselves into some real strife over there, and the promise of $10,000,000 in my bank is a tempting one. I wonder what would happen if I just replied…
And if you really want to fill out some forms, check out these sources of reputable online surveys. They don’t offer any payment, but they can be fun to do:
